History

The cooperative was founded in 1932 by Petromagoula’ farmers as the Agricultural Credit and Supplying Cooperative of Petromagoula.

In 1934 facilities’ construction began at the 4 acres private lot of the cooperative.

In 1935 a lighting factory was built and started operating supplying electricity to the entire region of Orchomenos.

Up until the German occupation the Cooperative was the only commercial farm products’ organization and power supply in the area.

In 1951 the Ginning factory was constructed forming the largest factory in capacity in the entire prefecture of Viotia.

In 1952 the joint venture of partner cooperatives of Petromagoula, Karya and Romeiko was founded  with the mission to manage and exploit the cotton ginning factories, electricity, flour mill and warehouses, which were, at the time, situated at two lots. One at the cooperative facilities in Petromagoula and the other outside the town of Livadia (watermill and ginning factory of small capacity).

In 1958, the National Electricity Supplier of Greece acquired the lighting factory and the profits were used in order to construct a modern roller mill in the cooperative facilities.

In the 80s, the Cooperative has been very active especially in supplying sourcing, seeds and fertilizers.

In the new statute, in accordance with Law 4015/11, the current name of the Cooperative is AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVE ORGANIZATION OF ORCHOMENOS “Cooperative of Petromagoula”.
